'Uh oh' (detail)
Detail of 'Decay'
An exhibition as part of the Edinburgh Festival
Patriothall Gallery, Edinburgh
For this exhibition Dagg explains that he has meticulously
carved the figure of a doll. She is seated in a cluster of trees and stares out
with an ambiguous look. The scene is slightly disturbing, it doesn't make sense. Where are her clothes and
how has she lost a leg? Is she afraid? Is she pleading? Whatever she is saying
she is certainly vulnerable. She is also no ordinary doll, she has more refined
features, you almost recognise her. Indeed this is no clone, she has a
character. But what is she doing in the woods and how did she get there. The scenario has a dreamlike quality that defies a strict
narrative and relies more on a emotive response, feel free to make up your own
story.
